Google Chrome is about to become less of a memory hog.
The popular web browser is getting a couple of new features to help keep your computer running smoothly even when you have loads of tabs open or the battery is dead. In the coming weeks, Chrome users around the world will have access to two new tools: Memory Saver and Power Saver.

Memory Saver is for people who can’t manage their cards to save their lives. We all know someone who has promised to read an article for six months. Turn this feature on and Chrome will automatically turn off tabs you’re not actively using so they take up less memory, thus preventing your computer from stopping. Simply switch back to a tab that has saved memory and it will automatically reload.
As for Energy Saver, enable that feature and Chrome will host a low-power computer. If you’re using Chrome while your device’s battery reaches 20 percent or less, Battery Saver will automatically limit background activities, pictures, and videos it deems unnecessary. This should at least give you enough time to find a charger.
None of these features are particularly groundbreaking (there are already Chrome extensions that do what Memory Saver does), but it’s nice that Google has built them right into the browser. Now, seriously, close all those tabs. You won’t read that reflection piece you queued up in April.
