Some, but not all, Google Assistant users received an “action required” email as of yesterday alerting them of a bug affecting hotword and other service settings.
“[Action Required] Google Assistant Settings” was submitted by “The Google Workspace Team” although signed by the Assistant team and claims that the company “discovered a bug that may have affected Google Assistant and device configuration and preferences “.
In terms of specifics, this issue may have disabled personal routines and the “Hey Google” hotword on some devices. Google says it’s “looking into possible solutions to reset affected settings,” but otherwise tells users to visit Assistant and Home settings to check and re-enable if needed. The included support link is vague and does not provide further details.
End with “We sincerely apologize. We will be in touch with further information.”
This was not an email sent to all Google Assistant users, while not all or most who received it claim to have disabled hotword detection or routines. In theory, it’s a fairly simple solution to accessing the Assistant settings. The most ideal solution would be for Google to be able to address and roll things back on the server side.
