THE FLATS Georgia Tech volleyball senior outfielder Julia Bergmann has been named a 2022 VolleyballMag.com First Team All-American, the publication announced Friday. Bergmann makes the first team for the second straight year as she owns three total All-American honors from VolleyballMag.com over the course of her career, including an honorable mention in the wake of her second campaign.
Bergmann’s recognition follows his third consecutive All-American honor from the AVCA (2022: Second Team, 2021: First Team, 2020: Honorable Mention), tying second-most All-American across the organization by an individual on The Flats in program history. One of three former Yellow Jackets who possess three or more AVCA All-American nods in a career, the fixture in Tech tradition is the only member of the esteemed group with first-team honors. Monique Mead holds the all-time record with four All-American honors by the AVCA (2009-11: honorable mention, 2012: third team), while Lynette Moster matched Bergmann with three all-American selections through the AVCA (2002: second team, 2003-04: third team).
Bergmann caps off his decorated career with not only three All-American honors from the AVCA, but also four All-Region honors in as many years, the most ever by a single yellow jacket. In addition to being recognized in each of her years on The Flats, the vaunted outfield hitter also holds the program’s only regional player of the year (2021) and freshman of the year (2019) awards.
Expanding his trophy case, Bergmann previously earned his sixth annual ACC honor, picking up his third consecutive First Team All-ACC honors in addition to last season’s ACC Player of the Year crown, as well as ACC Freshman of the Year honors and ACC All-Freshman during his first collegiate season.
The explosive forward collected a multitude of weekly honors during the season, including a Division I GameChanger National Player of the Week from the AVCA for the second time in her career as well as four ACC Player of the Week honors, matching her total from the his season a year ago.
Bergmann made waves in the Techs record books when she finished sixth in career program history (1,731), seventh all-time in single seasons (538), and is fifth on The Flats in career (164). Now one of five members of the Yellow Jacket’s 1,500 kill/1,000 dig club, Ger-zilian also tied the program record in single-match kills with 38 on a Florida State reverse sweep during the season and is the only Yellow Jacket with four games of 30 or more kills in a career.
Bergmann led the ACC by a wide margin on offense, ranked ninth in the NCAA in kills (538) and 12th in points (603.5) while finishing fourth in the nation in both kills per set (5.22) and points per set (5.86) in his last season.
In another year for the record books, Georgia Tech finished its 2022 roster 21-8 overall and 13-5 in ACC play after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets reached that milestone for the third consecutive season, joining the 2002-04 White-and-Golds as the only teams to do so consecutively in program history.

The initiative achieved its initial fundraising goal of $2.5 million in less than six weeks and expanded its goal to $3.5 million raised by December 31. -dollar from the Georgia Tech Foundation, meaning that if the $3.5 million fundraising goal is met, the matching gift would have a $7 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
