Strong fundamentals and a little extra polish go a long way

When it comes to wireless earbuds, you’re almost guaranteed a good experience with a pair from any big name (and lots of smaller names). This hasn’t always been the case for Google; the first three pairs of the company’s wireless Pixel Buds had issues. With Pixel Buds Pro, though, Google has finally cracked the code. In fact, it’s Android Police’s earphones of the year 2022.

It has to be said that the Pixel Buds Pro aren’t necessarily the best earbuds in a single area. Our runners-up, the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II and the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, each beat the Pixel Buds Pro in some ways. But Google’s newest earbuds strike such a perfect balance of quality, ease of use, and polish that it’s awfully hard not to like them.

The main new feature of the Pixel Buds Pro is active noise cancellation, a first for Google earbuds. Suits like Sony and Bose still beat Google on ANC, but what the Pixel Buds Pro offer is way better than average – admirable for a first go. This ANC is facilitated by a more traditional earphone design that does away with the space vent found in the previous two generations, but Google compensated for the change by including a really loud transparency mode that lets you hear your surroundings on demand rather than all the noise. time.

Battery life is also phenomenal. While the 2020 Pixel Buds and A-Series Pixel Buds each manage about five hours of playtime on a charge, the Pixel Buds Pro can last seven hours with noise cancellation or transparency on. Turn them off and you’ll have an incredible 11 hours straight. Pixel Buds Pro also fixed the connectivity issues of the last two pairs – no audio interference or skipping here.

And of course, they wouldn’t be “pro” headsets without bells and whistles. Pixel Buds Pro support Fast Pair on Android, multipoint connectivity for pairing to two audio sources at once, wireless charging, and always-on Hey Google detection for hands-free interaction. Oh, and they sound really good too.

Like many of its recent hardware products, Google has been improving the Pixel Buds Pro through post-launch software updates. While the earphones launched without any kind of EQ support, a relatively major fumble, they eventually got five-band EQ this fall. It’s annoying that the feature wasn’t there at launch, but hey, all’s well that ends well.

With competent audio and ANC, one of the best battery life you’ll find in the form factor, all kinds of useful features like multipoint audio and wireless charging, and best of all, no major flaws that mar the experience, the I Pixel The $200 Buds Pro are unequivocally a great set of earphones. It might have taken a few tries, but assuming you have an Android phone, Google’s earbuds are among your best options today.
