The laboratory technician is responsible for collecting and/or processing samples for sample collection projects and clinical trials.

In this role:

Quarantines units as required and follows all safety practices related to handling biohazardous materials, including cleaning work area, centrifuges, and master trays. Processes the sample tubes by centrifugation and placing in the master trays in the correct order and inserts the tubes into the LB-Trays in the computer. Processes external test samples by recording (on external test sheet) applying GC barcodes and entering correct customer number into computer. Performs searches, matches, checks and computer printouts as assigned and identifies possible pipe errors through the use of computer aided programs. Initiate equipment troubleshooting and troubleshooting and report the outcome to the Supervisor. Record refrigerator and freezer temperatures and discard old samples and store tubes in the refrigerator. Collects samples from customer and responds to customer concerns in a timely and courteous manner. Complete at least 12 hours of continuing education per year. Additional tasks assigned.

High school diploma or GED

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and radiation hazard. The noise level in the working environment is generally moderate.

The job duties carried an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to hepatitis and HIV.
