2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse sports carbon wheels, special color

Ford showed the upcoming 2024 Mustang Dark Horse fitted with its optional set of carbon fiber wheels, along with our first glimpse of its interior. The lightweight wheels weigh 20.1 pounds, a figure that’s about 37 percent less than standard Dark Horse aluminum wheels.

The new 2024 Ford Mustang looks great with a set of carbon fiber dancing shoes. Ford today announced it will offer a carbon wheel option when the Dark Horse performance model goes on sale later this year. The lightweight wheels tip the scales at 20.1 pounds each, making them about 37 percent lighter than Dark Horse aluminum wheels, according to Ford. They were co-developed with Carbon Revolution and follow the carbon fiber wheels Ford had previously offered on the GT supercar and Mustang Shelby GT350R.

Using technology inspired by aerospace engineering, Carbon Revolution has used a plasma arc spray inside the front wheels to protect them from the high temperatures caused by braking. The wheels are fitted with 305/30R-19 Trofeo RS high-performance tires in the front and 315/30R-19 tires in the rear. The Mustang Dark Horse you see here is also finished in a special exterior paint color called Blue Ember that is said to change hues in different lights.

Along with the fancy wheels and special color, Ford has given us our first glimpse of the Dark Horse’s signature interior trim. The moody cabin combines a variety of black and blue tones. Bright Indigo Blue stitching can be found on the steering wheel, door panels, gear gaiter and Recaro Performance seats. Choosing the Dark Horse Appearance Package adds a Deep Indigo Blue finish to the seats and seat belts to complement the interior theme.

The seatbacks are finished in black Dinamica suede, while on the dashboard the bezels and vents are finished in a dark metallic sheen that replaces the silver tones of lower Mustang trim levels. Carbon fiber trim covers the front of the instrument cluster, door panels and three-spoke steering wheel.

Customers opting for the six-speed manual transmission will be able to row through the gears with a special blue anodized lightweight titanium manual shift knob. The shift knob is hollow, which Ford says helps keep it cool in hot weather. Those who choose the 10-speed automatic gearbox are awarded the consolation prize of anodized silver paddle shifters.

As a finishing touch, every Mustang Dark Horse features a dashboard badge that includes the vehicle’s chassis number.
