Loon’s Funny NBA PSA After Dray Not Voted Best Trash Talker Originally Appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Draymond Green has been proud of his role as the NBA’s biggest bad guy for the past couple of years, but someone else is coming for his throne.
In a poll of NBA All-Star players released by The Athletic this week, Patrick Beverly received the most votes for the league’s biggest trash talker.
Green’s teammate Kevon Looney wasn’t surprised but also believes it may be too early in the season to decide.
“Draymond has been a little gentle this year,” Looney told reporters Monday after the Warriors practice. “He didn’t talk as much as he usually does. But [come] playoffs, Draymond will probably come and get it back.
The poll was close, though. Six All-Stars voted for Beverley and four voted for Green.
Udonis Haslem, Dillon Brooks, Joe Ingles and Damian Lillard each got one vote. Oh, and the entire Memphis Grizzlies team garnered a solo vote, too. Also not very surprising.
For some players, like the Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo and the Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Green was the “obvious” answer. But those close to Beverley, like Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers, believe he’s just “unbeaten” talking trash.
“I think Pat Bev knows this is her role,” Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Huerter told The Athletic. “That’s the effect of him on the game, kind of rubbish and it takes kids away from their game.”
Players like Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Rasheed Wallace pioneered what now seems to be every player using their mouth to their advantage on the hardwood in today’s game.
Kings center Domantas Sabonis agreed.
“Everyone talks trash these days, so I can’t even tell you,” Sabonis told The Athletic when asked who was the biggest trash talker.
However, there has to be a trash-talking king, and while Green and Beverley have been the top two for the past two seasons, this year it’s Beverley.

Picturing the two on the same team has been something Dub Nation has been going through recently.
Before Beverley signed with the Chicago Bulls, he confirmed that the Warriors were his second option. How does trash talker No. 1 and trash talker no. Would 2 have been successful on the same team? Looney’s guess is as good as anyone else’s.
“I have no idea,” he said. “I got to play with Pat a bit in East LA, he was a good teammate to have in the recovery, but I hope he does well in Chicago.”
One thing is certain. The two on the same team would make life for each opposing team a living hell.
