Questions and doubts remaining after the raid on the Naples department

[ad_1]

Security concerns after Naples police said a man forcibly entered their headquarters and fled in tactical gear.

In a statement, the Naples PD said it was actively reviewing the department’s security measures. And they’ve already begun fortifying the very door that the Naples PD said Joseph Moulton used to enter.

The incident report raises questions about the safety and security of the department. So WINK News reached out to every Naples city councilor, city manager, and mayor for answers.

The record of Moulton’s arrest indicates that a violent door throw cracked the code needed to enter the Naples Police Department on Friday night.

Posing the question, how easily can someone enter the city building?

“Investigators are looking into the root cause you said maybe this individual just opened the door. There may be other issues at play here,” said Naples city councilor Terry Hutchison.

Councilman Hutchison is the only city leader willing to speak to WINK News about the matter. Councilman Hutchison told WINK News that building safety and security in the City of Naples is a top priority.

In the statement, the Naples PD said a further review is underway regarding access points, security measures and policies to ensure that all measures are taken to protect the city’s buildings.

But, with Moulton entering the department building and leaving with police gear, are these buildings secured right now? Due to ongoing investigations, the Naples Democratic Party did not answer this question. But the Naples PD said current measures prevent Moulton from accessing sensitive areas.

But based on the report, it took police more than two hours to learn that an intruder was inside their building. And more than six hours to arrest the suspect.

But would Moulton’s brash and reckless behavior elicit imitation?

“There are places where people might want to try this kind of thing. The city of Naples is not that place. You don’t want to come here and practice crime, I assure you,” Councilor Hutchison said.

Any doubts, they will use Moulton as an example.

“I believe we will likely use the full force of our laws to remedy the situation and ensure that this individual is held accountable,” Hutchison said.

Naples police said Moulton faces two counts of burglary and one count of grand larceny. They said when he was arrested he claimed to be under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. Naples City Manager Jay Boodheswar said the city intends to issue its own statement on what happened.
