[ad_1]

Against the backdrop of the new era, enterprises in all fields have multiplied and taken the lead in global markets, supported by first-rate technologies and innovative spirits, showcasing the national strategy driven by innovation and technology. Among these, there are large companies that were born out of traditional business and have self-evolved in recent decades, as well as start-ups born to embrace innovation and globalization.

EqualOcean’s new interview column entitled “Technological Innovation, Leading the World” will focus on start-ups, characterized as innovative technology and product, global competitiveness and global layout, in the fields of advanced manufacturing, new energy, consumer technology and digitisation. Through the close observation of R&D processes and the comprehensive view of their core management, this series aims to show the new face and opportunities of Chinese technology and innovation companies. In this article, EqualOcean conducted a dialogue with Liu Jing, General Manager of Hai RoboticsChinese: , the leader in autonomous robot case management (ACR) systems.

EqualOcean: Presents the recent developments of Hai Robotics.

Hai Robotics: Founded in 2016, Hai Robotics is a global logistics warehouse robot company committed to providing efficient, intelligent and flexible automation solutions through advanced robotics and artificial intelligence algorithms to improve the efficiency of every warehouse and factory.

Hai Robotics’ autonomous case management robot

Currently, Hai Robotics has increased efficiency for comprehensive service and operation in more than 30 countries and regions around the world, with more than 1,000 commercial projects signed and overseas business accounting for about 40-50%. Our services cover industries such as fashion, 3PL, retail, 3C, automotive, healthcare, cross-border e-commerce and more. Our representative customers include world famous brands such as Philips, Anta, Bosch.

EqualOcean: What was the original intention and opportunity to found the company? What are the backgrounds of the founding team?

Hai Robotics: Around 2015, the three founders of Hai Robotics noticed the social trend of aging population. At the same time, they were impressed by the hard work of the warehouse workers during several months of on-site research. Subsequently, they were determined to use the power of technology to improve the working conditions of warehouse personnel, cope with aging problems, and thereby create value for the society.

The founders all have a STEM background and are graduates of prestigious institutes such as the Hong Kong Polytechnic and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Before founding Hai Robotics, they were engaged in research and development of optoelectronic components.

EqualOcean: What are the iteration phases of Hai Robotics core products? What is your current level in the industry?

Hai Robotics: Hai Robotics has been dedicated to research and innovation in autonomous robots for case management. Initially, we proposed the single layer ACR concept, but did not bring it to market due to its limited efficiency in warehouse operations. In 2018, we officially launched our first commercial project, Multi-Layer ACR A41, and deployed 20 robots in Lishui, Foshan, Guangdong Province.

In 2019, we switched to a new version of Multi-Layer ACR and put it to use in a shoe and clothing warehouse in Shanghai. In mid-2020, HAIPICK A42D and HAIPICK A42N were invented. The biggest innovation of HAIPICK A42D is its ability to retrieve and store double-deep cases, significantly improving storage density. HAIPICK A42N is also an improvement that adds cartoon compatibility.

In September 2020, we launched a scalable HaiPick A42T ACR and HAIPICK A42 SLAM ACR laser. The former can retrieve and store crates up to 10 meters high, while the latter no longer relies on ground-based QR codes and can be operated using SLAM laser navigation technology.

At the end of 2020, we released HaiPort, the automatic loading and unloading machine, which has greatly improved the picking efficiency and can fetch 8 cases at the same time. In October 2021, Hai Robotics launched the HAIPICK A3 ACR with forklift and the HAIPICK A42-FW ACR with dynamic adjustment. The A3 can retrieve and store irregular shaped cargo including boxes, pallets and tyres, while the A42-FW can retrieve and store crates of different sizes.

Hai Robotics has provided several ACR solutions for Anta

In December 2022, HaiPick system ACR and AMR solution and HaiQ software platform were launched. After years of deep cultivation in the field of ACR, Hai Robotics has solid accumulation in competitive products, leading project experience and 100% project delivery ability.

Hai Robotics has always been sticking to the integration of hardware and software development. Software is an indispensable part of the warehouse solution. Software programming capability plays a crucial role in the project delivery process. Therefore, the integration of hardware and software is the long-term priority for Hai Robotics.

EqualOcean: Which countries and regions are Hai Robotics’ robotic solutions targeted for? How does the company provide localized services for overseas customers?

Hai Robotics: Currently, Hai Robotics has established overseas subsidiaries in major continents of the world, covering countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands and others. Local employees make up over 80% of the workforce. The overseas subsidiaries have localization service capabilities and can respond quickly to the needs of integrators and end customers, thus improving the efficiency of operations and after-sales services.

EqualOcean: What is the core competitiveness of Hai Robotics compared with overseas robot companies?

Hai Robotics: Hai Robotics’ main competitive advantage lies in the independent R&D of the entire product line and its cutting-edge technology. Furthermore, the safety of our products is highly guaranteed. Our case handling robots have obtained CE and UL certification, which meet the safety standards in Europe and the United States. For example, some functions such as emergency stops, obstacle avoidance, collision protection, sound and light safety reminders, are developed to create a safe environment for human-robot collaboration.

EqualOceanIn 2023, what are the opportunities for industrial robotics? What obstacles need to be overcome? What are Hai Robotics’ plans regarding this?

Hai Robotics: Flexible and intelligent warehouse automation solutions will remain the top demand in the market. Based on this, Hai Robotics will provide more innovative robotic products to address customers’ pain points. Over the next 3 years, the company is expected to invest CNY 5 billion each year in R&D and product innovation.

At the same time, we will march towards globalization and build a win-win global partnership ecosystem. This year, Hai Robotics has fully turned to channel sales and formed a joint operation mode by building reliable partnerships. At present, we have established partnership relations with well-known enterprises at home and abroad, such as SAP, Amazon Web Services, JD Logistics and Mitsui Group, to jointly expand the global market. We are looking forward to cooperating with more enterprises, who can identify with Hai Robotics’ values and products with certain experience and customer base in warehouse automation and logistics industry.
