Unity 2023.1 Tech Stream is now available

For objects illuminated by Light Probe, Probe Volumes allows you to setup and repeat Light Probe placement faster. The visual quality of objects illuminated by the light probe is superior and affects volumetric fog in HDRP and particles. In some scenarios, Probe Volumes also allows static objects to be illuminated indirectly, for example in a room. Combined with tools to reduce light loss, they can reduce the need for lightmaps, reducing bake times with less need to create lightmap UVs.

Baking sets allow you to set and blend between different lighting scenarios illuminated by Light Probe in HDRP. At runtime, the GPU’s memory footprint is reduced by streaming probe data from the CPU.

With version 2023.1, the basic functionality and user experience of Adaptive Probe Volumes have improved and are officially out of preview.

We have also implemented limited support for Adaptive Probe Volumes in URP. Note that this iteration will not support lighting scene fusion or lighting normalization for reflection probes. It may not yet be optimized for performance, especially when running on low-end platforms.
