The Destiny Trust, a non-governmental organization that focuses on children, has announced an innovation challenge for 13-17 year olds.

The NGO invites children to develop innovative technological solutions that address the serious social challenges facing children around the world.

The challenge focuses on issues such as health care, food security, child malnutrition and access to education.

Those interested can send their ideas here.

In a statement on Saturday, Sandra Okwundu, the organization’s head of technology development and skills, said seven selected participants will present their innovative ideas before a panel in September.

Shortlisted applicants will present their ideas during a demonstration event.

“Applications will be evaluated on the basis of originality of ideas, effectiveness of innovation, market potential, scalability of the idea, technical knowledge and ability to develop the idea, among others,” it reads in the statement.

“The challenge seeks to identify and nurture genius in underrepresented children, focusing on low-income public school or private school children, as well as secondary school dropouts from low-income backgrounds across Nigeria.

“The challenge promises exciting prizes including a laptop, cash prizes, technology skills development courses and a year-long mentorship to support winners as they develop their innovation.

“Successful applicants will be invited for an interview by August 12, 2023 prior to the Demo event in September 2023.”
