Someone went ahead and started creating an open world farming adventure on Pokémon … with guns … and poaching … and heck, you can even invite your friends for multiplayer. Knowing the premise of Palworld doesn’t make the trailer any less ridiculous and will liven up some moments of your Monday afternoon.
Steam’s main conclusion: “You can have them fight, breed, help with agriculture or work in factories. You can even sell them or even slaughter them for food! This, however, is prohibited by law.”
I couldn’t figure out why this game looked so familiar until I clicked on the developer information. Palworld was created by Pocketpair, the team behind Craftopia, another wild crafting game in Early Access. If nothing else, these creators know how to get everyone’s attention with absurd game trailers. It’s a skill!
From flying around on mounts to breeding creatures to building highly questionable farms and production lines, there is enough mechanically with Palworld that it will probably be interesting to play up to a point. It looks like another colorful candy floss buffet. At the moment, Pocketpair is aiming for launch in 2022 on Steam.
In a development note on the future of Craftopia (which is still moving forward with an expanded team), Pocketpair stated that Palworld is in the “prototype phase”.
Do I expect anything more than a weekend distraction from this? Right now, not really. I appreciate the laughs, though.
