A scientist advising the government said there is now a very strong argument for vaccinating children against the coronavirus as infections rise and evidence emerges that vaccination is safe enough.
Professor Peter Openshaw, vice president of Nervtag, a committee that deals with emerging respiratory threats, said there were indications that the Indian variant was more transmissible among children than the original Wuhan strain.
Openshaw, professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College London, told BBC Radio 4s Today: Reinforce the argument to extend vaccination to children. I’ve been sitting on the fence about this but all in all I’m coming to the conclusion that there’s a very strong argument that we should go there.
