Xbox Fridge … It started out as a joke and it seems like Microsoft is running away like it’s a normal thing to do.
At the end of the presentation at E3 2021, Microsoft officially announced a true mini refrigerator under the Xbox brand, aptly named Xbox Fridge, as reported by CNET. There is no exact release date yet, but it is expected to hit the market during the holiday season this year.

The hype about the mini-fridge actually started as a joke because many gamers have claimed that the Xbox Series X console looked like one. And according to a video tweeted from Xbox’s official Twitter page, it looks exactly like a Series X system.
The Xbox Fridge was Microsoft’s “one more thing” for their presentation at E3 2021, which is in line with many other exhibitors making major last-minute revelations of secret projects. And if the promotional video is to be believed, Xbox Fridge is capable of holding more than a handful of cans of energy drinks. Probably a 12-pack of soda.
While Xbox didn’t really lean on the joke at first, it decided to seriously consider designing the Xbox Fridge after winning a brand contest on Twitter, according to Engadget. And since the mini-fridge was officially announced, it’s safe to say the brand contest was an overwhelming victory.

Xbox refrigerator: not the first “gaming” kitchen appliance
Despite its rather humorous origin, Xbox Fridge is actually a very good product if you look at it closely. Gamers are a very brand-oriented market and would like to represent their favorite brands whenever they can. And considering that energy drinks are part of the stereotypical “gamer diet,” the Xbox refrigerator makes commercial sense.
Another gaming company has already seen this coming and their product started as a joke too. Fans of gaming peripheral maker Razer have asked the company to make a Razer Toaster because, frankly, they think it’s fun. But then, Razer has actually made the leap and is currently designing the toaster itself.
Maybe they really didn’t have a choice because the demand for this was skyrocketing. According to PCGamer, a Facebook page dedicated to the product already had over 1 million likes before Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan broke the news. Aside from that, 12 people got their toasters tattooed.
Here’s another thing: there’s already an Xbox refrigerator, and that was full-size. When the Xbox Series X was launched, Microsoft took advantage of the refrigerator jokes early on and made a full-size five-foot-tall refrigerator that’s a 1: 1 replica of an X-series console.

But this was not made available to the general public. In fact, it was gifted to winners of an online contest as part of the marketing campaign for the X series. According to The Verge, one of the owners is rapper Snoop Dogg, who has been a self-confessed Xbox fan for years.
E3 2021 is full of surprises.
