Cartoon bunnies with plastic and strained smiles. Smiling hearts with exploding heads. Fields of corpses. Monsters that gargle on tangles of arms that come out of their abyssal mouths. Yes, happiness is not the first emotion that comes to mind.
The studies that brought us the sweet Samorost series, the bubbly Botanicula and the meditative Machinarium return this fall with Happy Game, which delves into a child’s nightmare with the stated goal of making him happy again. I’m not sure if that little kid was happy at first, the slightly demented stuff that has been rattling upstairs. office
