(WPRI) When it comes to spelling, everyone seems to have at least one word that makes them stumble.
AT&T experts examined the most popular “as-spelling” words by state from March 24, 2020 to March 24, 2021, using Google Trends.
“Quarantine” was the most misspelled, most searched word in 12 states, the data revealed. Many people even thought it was spelled “corn teen”.
“No, ‘corn teen’ is not a new nickname for a teenager who is very fond of yellow vegetables,” the experts said.
Zombie apocalypse? In which states are you most likely to survive?
Seven favorite states with misspellings, the second most misspelled word. The most common misspelling was “preferred”.
“A common spelling mistake in the United States is actually the correct spelling in the United Kingdom. We see you over there, “the experts said, adding that” they hope that people abroad don’t get mad at us. “
“Coronavirus” was third on the list, often misspelled as “caronavirus” in six states, including Vermont, which on Monday became the first state in the nation to vaccinate 80% of its eligible population with at least one dose of COVID- 19 vaccine.
Later there was the word “who”, most commonly misspelled in five states as “which” or “witch”.
Other words Americans had trouble with included:
Each (three states) I believe (three states) Definitely (three states) Separate (two states)
Incidentally, people in Washington, DC, where many of our country’s leaders reside, have a hard time writing “success.” “They couldn’t figure out how many Cs” there were in the word, experts said.
