Come on Google, you know the traditional way to collect tears from middle-aged fathers is to just play a little bit of Harry Chaplin. There was no need to seat a video editor and force him to have a minute of imaginary but recognizable one-sided conversations between a father and his teenage son. But here we are: Happy Father’s Day, I guess.
There isn’t much to it; Google is showing its search, messages (with RCS, of course), dialer, YouTube, assistant reminders, and photos. The father tries several times to reach his son, getting both cold shoulder and cold feet with each.
The easy-listening tone and music is sure to impress you in this video. But I think Google is missing a bit of subtext here: based on the age of the “ten years ago” photos, there’s no way “Jake” is old enough to pay for his phone or phone plan. So answer your goddamn phone, Jake. Those things don’t grow on trees, and neither do the money needed to keep them connected every month.
