If players have one complaint about Outriders, other than rampant connectivity issues and unexplained instant deaths, it’s an apparent lack of legendary weapons and armor. Today, after much community feedback, developer People Can Fly finally addressed the issue by launching an update that doubled the legendary drop rate.
Since the game launched in April, players have complained about the games’ legendary drop rate, which seemed to hover somewhere in that liminal space between 0 and 0.000001%. No matter what you do, you will rarely, if ever, come across gold-colored gear, even if you happen to be in the endgame Expedition missions.
What is the purpose of a legendary + 425% drop rate modifier? one gamer joked in a Reddit post from two months ago. (The difficulty in Outriders is determined by a scaled system called World Tiers. In a higher World Tier, you will face tougher enemies, but you will also get an increase in the Legendary loot rate. But what’s the point of increasing an alleged 0 percent rate. by 425 percent?) Many, many other Reddit threads in the intervening weeks have raised similar questions and concerns.
In my experience, they are not off base. I’ve played over 60 hours and have only a handful of legendary pieces of equipment scattered among my three characters. Some of these were the result of scheduled or guaranteed loot drops during boss fights.
Today’s update increases the drop rate of Legendary gear by 100%. People Can Fly has implemented additional changes to strengthen player luck. For one thing, legendary weapons and armor are no longer burdened with so-called level brackets, meaning equipment can now drop to any level. For another, there are now systems in place to prevent duplicate items, another problem that has plagued Outriders players looking for high-powered gear. The appreciation pack that offered a free legendary weapon to people who stuck to the game during its rocky launch period has also reportedly led to some players getting duplicate items.

Additionally, the games’ luck system has been improved and players should no longer experience very long dry spells without a legendary item dropped during the final game. It is unclear how long the dry spells are and whether or not they are measured by the number of enemies killed or the time elapsed. People Can Fly representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
