Google Messages SMS app gets automatic deletion of OTP, categories feature in India

[ad_1]

Google Messages, the company’s native Android messaging app for SMS, MMS and RCS, is receiving two new useful features in India. The former allows for automatic sorting of messages into different categories while the other allows for the automatic deletion of one-time passwords (OTP). The sorting feature uses machine learning technology to automatically sort your messages into categories, including personal, transaction, OTP, and offers to help you easily find the most important messages when you need them. If the user wishes, the OTPs will also be deleted automatically after 24 hours.

In a blog post, Google announced the launch of these two new features for Google Messages users in India. The launch will roll out in English over the next few weeks on Android phones in India running Android 8 and above. Both the OTP auto-delete function and the categories function are optional and can be turned on or off in Settings. Users will need to update to the latest version of Google Messages to see the changes and run Android 8 or later. If the categories feature is enabled, SMS messages on Google Messages will be classified into different sections, based on their usage. For example, bank transactions and bills will be filtered on the transactions tab, while conversations with saved numbers will be put on the personal tab. Google claims that categorization is done securely on the user’s device so conversations stay in the app and can be accessed even offline.

As for the OTP feature, Google offers the ability to automatically delete OTPs 24 hours after they are received, so users don’t have to waste time deleting them manually. This will help users keep their messages in order and easily delete unwanted messages. Last year, Google expanded spam protection to reduce the volume of unwanted messages by automatically moving suspicious spam messages to a spam folder.
