The sci-fi version of Spiders about the French Revolution gets its first gameplay reveal

[ad_1]

Steelrising is an action RPG set in the dirty streets of 18th century Paris in the midst of the French Revolution. Oh, and there are robots. Most of these deadly mechanical robots belong to King Louis XVI himself and are designed to protect the monarchy condemned by the revolutionaries. As an Egyptian android guard belonging to Marie Antoinette, you will need to use your superhuman skills to fight against these forces and, presumably, the king himself.

It looks wild and promising. Spiders have a reputation for ambitious RPGs that are a bit rough, like Greedfall, The Technomancer, and Mars: War Logs, among others. It appears that Steelrising is pushing further into the action, with Spiders CEO Jehanne Rousseau writing that it has “a strong emphasis on fast-paced combat.”

“If you’ve ever played a Souls-like, SteelRising will look familiar to you,” continues Rousseau. “And this is one of the reasons we wanted you to play an automaton: Aegis is much more acrobatic than any human being. She brings great agility and verticality to every fight. In addition, during your adventure you will unlock various tools, opening new paths to explore and new game possibilities during combat. “

The footage above definitely wears its Souls influences with pride, presenting itself as a fusion of Sekiro’s speed and agility and Bloodborne’s gray Victorian setting. Aegis is lightning fast with melee attacks, but she also comes with bullets.

Greedfall was pretty heavy on combat, although Lauren wrote in our review that “it wasn’t particularly exciting”. If you’re going to cite the Souls series as an influence, you have a very steep hill to climb to make that fight meet expectations. Let’s hope Spider succeeds when Steelrising is released in June 2022.
