The Pixel 5A 5G, Google’s mid-range counterpart to the Pixel 5 of recent years, has been spotted in the FCC database, suggesting a release may not be far off. Android Police, which first saw the two lists, reports that no one specifically mentions the Pixel 5A name but that at least one of the three model numbers (GR0M2) aligns with previous reports on the newly announced phone.
Android Police speculates that one of the models (G1F8F) is the version of the phone intended for US release based on its wireless frequency bands, but reports that this version does not offer support for 5G mmWave networks. In contrast, the Pixel 4A 5G offered mmWave support when used with compatible operators. The other two models could be the international versions of the phones.
It should be powered by a Snapdragon 765G
Otherwise the lists don’t offer many new details than what was already rumored on the phone. The Pixel 5A will reportedly be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, will feature a 6.2-inch 1080p OLED display, and will include a headphone jack like Google’s previous Pixel A series. Two rear cameras are planned, one main and one ultrawide, based on the recent image leak of an ultrawide camera apparently taken by the unreleased phone.
The big question now is when will you see Google officially detailing the phone beyond just confirming that it exists. When it announced the phone earlier this year in response to rumors that it had been canceled, Google didn’t provide an exact release date and simply said it would arrive later this year. Furthermore, it would only officially confirm a release in the US and Japan but as Android Police notes, it would be odd to produce two international versions of the phone if Japan is the only non-US market for the device.
