Charming. Really fascinating.

I think of Google’s Pixel brand as one of those cult stars who refuse to appear in Hollywood movies.
more technically incorrect
Until they reach a certain age, that is.
Many people love their Pixels. Relatively few actually buy them. And, well, just like with cult stars, there have been some unimpressive Pixel performances at times.
On the other hand, Google has recently presented its Pixels in such an engaging way as to (almost) want to forgive all the listlessness with which the company manages the brand.
Not too long ago, there was Google that was successfully advertising its accidental call feature. Before that, there was an intriguing request to practice mindfulness while downloading data to your new Pixel.
Now Google has released three more fun little ad jewels. Each serves to offer additional emotional uplift.
There’s a dramatization of how the Pixel’s supposed 48-hour battery is a sipper, not a chugger. The ad actually features a dog that isn’t cute at all.
However, how do you advertise the security features? Security is such a nebulous concept, until it bites you like an ugly dog.
Here, Google chooses to show a frightened child screaming. Because what’s more fun than that?
Finally, there is the blocking of unwanted calls. How can you make it fun? How do you make it look like a nice thing to do?
Why, you go back into the infinite advertising arsenal that are children and you find a little girl who sings: “Leave me alone … leave me aloooonnneeee”.
Somehow, I find myself fascinated by all three of these little advertisements.
There are those, however, who believe that marketing and advertising are the same thing. The truth is, advertising is only part of the marketing effort, and Google hasn’t always been proficient in any of the other parts.
This leaves Pixel in this particular limbo, neither here nor there, but somewhere out there.
Which is a shame.
