The R number in England has increased and is now between 1.2 and 1.5, according to the latest government figures.

R represents the average number of people that each Covid-19 positive person continues to infect. Last week it was between 1.1 and 1.3.

When the figure is greater than one, an outbreak can grow exponentially, but when it is less than one, it means the epidemic is shrinking.

An R number between 1.2 and 1.5 means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 12 and 15 other people.

The growth rate is between 3% and 7%, which means that the number of new infections is growing between 3% and 7% every day.

Downing Street urged people to continue using the Covid NHS app and to isolate themselves when advised to do so.

The prime minister’s official spokesperson said the app was an important tool in breaking the transmission chain.

The spokesperson said: A large number of the population continues to use the app and it has been an important tool in getting people to isolate and break the chain of transmission.

It is important that people continue to isolate themselves if they are asked to do so. We keep asking people to isolate themselves if asked through the app.
