OnePlus is making a “Pro” headset and you can apply to test it in advance

OnePlus just announced it is working on a “Pro” version of its earbuds, apparently following on from last year’s OnePlus Buds and Buds Z. A release date for the new OnePlus Buds Pro or “Buds Pro Edition” (they are both called) was not mentioned in the announcement, but a handful of lucky testers can apply to check them out in advance. Registrations expire on July 17th.

Not much is known about the new earbuds, but the nickname “Pro” is likely to draw a parallel with Apple’s Airpods Pro, which differ from the base Pro-less model with the addition of ANC and a design that seals more firmly. against your ear canal.

OnePlus may not have said much about the product, but it has revealed a timeline that could indicate a release will happen very soon. According to OnePlus, applications close on July 17, reviewers will be announced on July 21, and the devices will be shipped to testers as soon as July 22, with an embargo to be followed on an as yet undetermined date. However, OnePlus later also claims that “reviewers will receive the devices around the official launch event date,” so we may see a product launch before the end of the month. The Nord 2 is also expected to launch on July 22, so it could be released then.

I was a fan of last year’s OnePlus Buds and still use them regularly, although they aren’t without their issues. While they are comfortable for the shape of my ear and sound great for that open-loop style of earphone, the quality of the Bluetooth connection is lacking and the touch controls are limited – two problems that I hope the new Buds won’t suffer.

Those who get early access to Buds Pro will need to write their review within seven calendar days, and it appears that OnePlus is only shipping 10 devices in total.
