Story Links MELBOURNE, Florida. Amy O’Brien has stepped down from her position as head coach of the Florida Tech volleyball program, athletic director Jamie Joss announced Friday.

“I want to thank Coach O’Brien for his dedicated Panther volley serve over the past 11 years,” said Joss. “We appreciate the hard work that has contributed to our program. We wish her the best as she begins to write the next chapter of her life and career.”

O’Brien was appointed head coach in the summer of 2012 after previously serving as an interim head coach in the spring of 2012 and assistant manager for the previous two years. During his nine years at the helm, O’Brien led Florida Tech to 83 wins, including 27 in the Sunshine State Conference game. His 83 victories are in second place in the history of the program.

“I would like to thank Bill Jurgens and Pete Mazzone for giving me the opportunity to coach at such a prestigious university,” said O’Brien. “I would also like to thank the rest of the athletic staff for their continued support over the past 11 years and wish athletic director Jamie Joss the best of luck as he embarks on his new journey to Florida Tech.

“I am extremely grateful for the chance to train some of the best student-athletes in the country and I will miss seeing them every day. I wish them the best of luck for the next season and for future seasons. From my time here as a student-athlete to become head coach of women’s volleyball, Florida Tech has been my home. I look forward to continuing to support the athletic program, the staff and the volleyball program moving forward. “

O’Brien amassed 1,717 career digs in his four-year collegiate career in the vacant position. He played for two years at Florida State College in Jacksonville, earning NJCAA All-Region, Florida Community College Activities Association All-State and All Mid-Florida Conference awards. She then moved to Florida Tech for her last two years and finished just 13 digs from the accumulation of 1,000 digs as Pantera.

O’Brien graduated from Florida Tech with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2009 and then earned a master’s degree in business administration from Florida Tech in 2015.

A national search is underway to fill the position of head coach.
