The new BMW 2 Series will arrive in SA in early 2022.
Following its revelation on the web earlier this week, BMW released footage of the new 2 Series Coupe making its world debut at England’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In the new clip, former British touring car champion Paul ONeill guides us through the car highlights, alongside BMW Product Operations Manager Charles Turner.
Want to see the new BMW 2 Series Coupe in action? BMW has also released some driving footage of the new sports coupe.
As a reminder, the new 2 Series Coupe, expected in South Africa in early 2022, remains the only sub-3 Series model to be built on a rear-wheel drive platform. But how long can they call it Series 2? We say this because the new model is a whopping 105mm longer than its predecessor and 64mm wider, although BMW has lowered it by 28mm.
However, while retaining the RWD platform, the new 2 Series also offers an all-wheel drive configuration for the first time, with a rear-biased xDrive system fitted as standard on the new M240i variant. The BMW 220i retains the rear-wheel drive format.
The M240i xDrive (which will be the flagship until the arrival of the next M2) is powered by a beefier version of BMW’s 3-liter straight-six, which now produces 285 kW and 500 Nm
M Sport suspension, as well as variable sports steering, are standard on the new 2 Series Coupé, while the M240i xDrive receives a model-specific version of the aforementioned suspension, as well as an M Sport rear axle differential, front axle struts and M Sport Brakes.
