iPhone 13: everything we know so far

[ad_1]

It seems like yesterday when we were removing the protective film from the iPhone 12, but the launch of the next model is just around the corner. While we’re not quite sure about the name (see below), we’ve already heard a lot about what the next iPhone will bring. Stay tuned to this article as we will update it with the latest and most credible reports as we hear them. Just remember that no one knows for sure until Apple says it!

iPhone 13: the latest rumors

July 14: A Bloomberg report confirms previous rumors that the iPhone 13 will reduce the size of the notch and emphasize “processor, camera and display improvements.”

July 12: Twitter leaker @dylandkt reports that LiDAR will only arrive on iPhone pro models.

July 9: Two Weibo posts reportedly show the new camera setup and size. The first shows an iPhone 12 Pro Max in an iPhone 13 Pro Max case to illustrate how much larger the camera array will be, while the other (courtesy of Ice Universe) shows the phones’ new camera setups.

July 5: The Economic Daily News reports that Apple has decided to use “13” as the name of the next iPhone.

Based on the changes, the next iPhone appears to be more of an “S” update, and some rumors suggest Apple may actually go that route. However, a more recent report in The Economic Daily News states that Apple has decided to use iPhone 13. The number 13 has an obvious “unfortunate” connotation in the United States, but it may not matter as the number is more for purposes of marketing. We conducted a Twitter poll and more than half of the respondents wanted Apple to use iPhone 13 as a name.

What better way to start the week than with a survey – what would you like the name of the next iPhone to be like?

The new iPhone in 2021 is expected to maintain the same overall size and shape as the iPhone 12 models, including flat edges. The most notable aesthetic change on the outside is said to be a larger camera bump and a shift in camera placement, as seen in these mannequins posted by Sonny Dickson on Twitter.

An entry from Indian site MySmartPrice previously suggested that dual-camera variants (non-Pro models) will have lenses arranged diagonally in the camera bump, rather than vertically, so these dummies look accurate. Due to the larger camera protrusion and the phone’s body being said to be slightly thicker, you shouldn’t expect iPhone 12 cases to work on iPhone 13. Based on Jon Prosser’s leaked CAD drawings for the iPhone 13 (below) in addition to a leak published on Weibo, the array of cameras will be larger and the phone will also be slightly thicker.

Color options are unknown at this time, but Max Weinbach says the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will get a new matte black option that is darker than this year’s graphite color that replaced space gray.

Jon Prosser leaked CAD drawings for the iPhone 13, which mostly confirm what we already suspected about the upcoming phone.

While the iPhone 12 mini hasn’t sold as well as some hoped, current rumors suggest there will still be a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini. Therefore, we are told to expect four models just like the iPhone 12: a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and an iPhone 13 Pro Max. 6.7 inch.

iPhone 13: a smaller notch

The display cutout (aka “notch”) for TrueDepth and other sensors has been with us since the iPhone X and may change its size for the first time with the 2021 iPhone. Apple is expected to move the speaker up at the top edge of the viewing area, freeing up space for the camera and other sensors to get closer, which will reduce the notch. Most recently, DigiTimes reported that Apple had “decided to reduce die size by 40-50% for VCSEL chips used in 3D face ID sensors for new iPhone and iPad devices to be launched later in 2021,” a move. which will cut costs and reduce the space needed to house the True Depth camera.

A Bloomberg report in July confirmed that Apple plans to “reduce the size of the front camera and face unlock sensor, or notch, to better suit its rivals.” He also added that next year’s iPhone will likely have an even smaller notch.

The smaller notch will allow for a bit more space in the status bar, although we still don’t know how Apple will fill it. We may get an additional indicator icon on each side of the notch. While a smaller notch probably won’t drastically change the iPhone 13, it will likely be the new model’s most notable visual change.

iPhone 13: camera

According to Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), the iPhone 13, 13 mini, and 13 Pro‌ will have the same wide-angle f / 1.6, 7-element lens as the iPhone 12, while the 13 Pro Max will have a 7-element lens with an aperture f /1.5 slightly improved. Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives says the full range of iPhone 13 could receive the LiDAR sensor, while other analysts believe it will still be limited to Pro models, including a recent leak from the often-accurate Twitter user @dylandkt.

The ultra wide camera on all iPhone 13 models is expected to be upgraded from a 5-element f / 2.4 lens to a 6-element f / 1.8 lens. There is disagreement among analysts as to whether this enhancement will come to all models or just the Pro models. Additionally, Kuo says that all models will have autofocus on the ultra wide-angle lens rather than fixed focus on the iPhone 12, so you will be able to block nearby objects. Max Weinbach via EverythingApplePro also says that portrait mode will be coming in videos, an extension of what’s already coming in the FaceTime app in iOS 15. A July Bloomberg report says the improvements will focus on “more video recording features.” advanced like the improved optical zoom “.

Leaked models show that camera placement is changing on non-Pro models, which could signal a change as well. Although the cameras are placed vertically in the iPhone 12, they will reportedly use diagonal placement for the iPhone 13, mirroring the layout on the Pro models. This means that Apple may also change the position of the cameras while implementing the changes to the ultra lens. wide angle. The new lens placement, as seen in this Weibo post, could also make changes to features that have not yet been talked about.

Sensor stabilization, currently only on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, is said to work its way through the full range of iPhone 13. A recent report from DigiTimes appears to have confirmed this rumor, although we don’t know which cameras it will apply to. Sensor stabilization, which stabilizes the sensor instead of the camera lens for better blur reduction, is currently limited to the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s wide-angle lens.

After years of the iPad Pro being the only Apple device to feature a refresh rate above 60Hz, we could finally get ProMotion at 120Hz in this year’s new iPhones. The 120Hz ProMotion display is likely to be limited to iPhone 13 Pro models and will still be an OLED display.

Max Weinbach of the EverythingApplePro YouTube channel reports that the next iPhone may have an always-on lock screen. You’ll see the clock and battery life indicator and notifications will appear, although we don’t know what other information (if any) will be there. To preserve battery life, Apple may use an LPTO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) OLED display like the one in the Apple Watch.

iPhone 13: A15 processor, battery and other specifications

Like every year, we expect the next iPhone to feature an all-new Apple-designed processor. This will likely be called A15 and will likely be manufactured by TSMC with an advanced 5nm process. Expect some small but significant improvements to CPU and GPU performance, along with a faster neural engine, image processor, and greater power efficiency.

Several leakers and analysts say this will be the first year Apple will produce an iPhone with a 1TB storage option. However, a recent report from TrendForce confirms this claim, stating that Apple sticks to 512GB at the top end.

When it comes to wireless technology, the entire range will almost certainly once again be equipped with 5G, this time using the Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 modem.

Some rumors suggest the battery will be a bit bigger this year, likely to help offset the increased power consumption from the ProMotion display or the always-on lock screen. Twitter leaker L0vetodream which has a very reliable track record, has been tweeting possible capabilities for the iPhone 12 and they are much larger than their predecessors. According to the account, the iPhone 13 Pro Max will have a 4,352mAh battery, while the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro have 3,095mAh batteries and the iPhone 12 mini’s battery comes in at 2,406mAh. Compared to 3,687 mAh (iPhone 12 Pro Max), 2,815 mAh (iPhone 12/12 Pro) and 2,227 mAh (iPhone 12 mini).

However, larger batteries don’t necessarily mean the phone will last longer. Apple may need the extra juice to power the always-on display.

iPhone 13: iOS 15 and other features

Apple unveiled iOS 15 at WWDC and brings numerous improvements to the iPhone, including new FaceTime features, a robust sharing platform, better notification handling, and much more. All of these features will be available on the iPhone 13 when it ships this fall, along with other exclusives from the new hardware, including the supposed always-on display.

iPhone 13: price and release date

The iPhone 13 line is expected to be announced at an event in September. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives recently told investors that he thinks an announcement will take place during the third week of September, which would be about a month earlier than last year, but in line with Apple’s usual release schedule. Pre-orders typically begin a few days after the event, and at least some phone models are generally released two to three weeks later. We haven’t heard any rumors about the price yet, but we assume it will be in line with the iPhone 12.
