A new Death’s Door gameplay trailer took another look at the upcoming game, which looks like a blend of Legend of Zelda and Hollow Knight.
The upcoming action-adventure game Death’s Door has received a new trailer ahead of its upcoming release. The gameplay video reveals a closer look at Death’s Door in action, showing thrilling combat and stunning visuals reminiscent of hits like Hollow Knight and The Legend of Zelda franchise. Coming later this month, Death’s Door looks to present itself as an intriguing title for fans of indie games.
Death’s Door is a combat-focused standalone RPG that will transform the player into a raven whose daily job is to collect the souls of the dead. When an assigned soul is stolen, the player must find the culprit in “a realm untouched by death – where creatures grow well beyond their maturity”. The game’s dark themes are offset by its whimsical designs, with characters that seem straight out of a fairy tale. From developer Acid Nerve and publisher Devolver Digital, Death’s Door’s isometric view and combat will likely appeal to Hades fans, while the story itself feels steeped in fantasy and mystery.

Publisher Devolver Digital has released a second gameplay trailer for Death’s Door that highlights other puzzles and battle mechanics that players will soon experience. The video shows everything from laser beams to floor puzzles, with an additional focus on the title’s fast-paced and colorful combat sequences. The trailer also takes a look at The Soul Vault, where players can upgrade their Reaper’s skills and abilities. A forest area, complete with a mythical being called Forest Mother, wouldn’t be out of place in a fantasy game like The Legend of Zelda, but Death’s Door’s creepy yet cute aesthetic can also be compared to Hollow Knight.

Death’s Door promises to offer challenging but rewarding fights, such as Dark Souls. Players will use various melee weapons, as well as arrows and magic, to take on all enemies that stand in the way of the Reaper, be they beasts, tyrants or even demigods. According to Steam’s description, mistakes will be punished while victories will be rewarded which means skill and dexterity will matter. The customizable character stats and different abilities and upgrades will allow for strategic gameplay when battling the forces of evil, creating what will hopefully be a solid gameplay experience.
In addition to showcasing the gameplay, the trailer teases that some of the fantastic cast players will meet along their journey. Characters include The Frog King, Steadhone the Gravedigger and Barb the Bard. Death’s Door’s colorful cast adds to the dark fairytale aesthetic, which may be reminiscent of games like the upcoming Fable 4. That said, the true depths of its story have yet to be discovered. Players who want to immerse themselves in the comedic but dark action adventure won’t have to wait too long, as the game launches on July 20th. Those wishing to withdraw the game can enjoy a pre-launch discount on Xbox, Steam and GOG, which will be available until the day of its release.
