Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the undisputed king of crossover fighting games, with a roster of over 80 beloved characters from video game history. While there have been many Smash Bros. clones in the past, the one on everyone’s mind is Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, a new fighting game that may have what it takes to take on Nintendo’s best fighter. Fueled by nostalgia and taking more than a few cues from the hit multiplayer series, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl could end up being a surprise hit and one of the best multiplayer games on Xbox. Here’s everything we know about Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

What is Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl?
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a new multiplayer fighting game that extracts characters from Nickolodeon’s over 30 years of cartoon history. Taking a cue from Super Smash Bros., the gameplay consists of frantic multiplayer brawls, where the goal is not to drain your opponent’s health bar but to knock him out of the arena.

Which characters will join the fight?

The reveal trailer offered a look at 10 characters, each with their own unique play styles and abilities:
Oblina Aaahh !!! Real monsters Danny Phantom Danny Phantom Helga Pataki Hey Arnold! Zim Invader Zim Reptar Rugrats SpongeBob SquarePants SpongeBob SquarePants Patrick Star SpongeBob SquarePants Sandy Cheeks SpongeBob SquarePants Leonardo Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Michaelangelo Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Lincoln Loud The Loud House Lucy Loud The Loud House Powdered Toast Man The Ren & Stornberry Thornberry Show Nigel
You’ll notice there’s already a good collection of fan favorites like Zim, newcomers like Lincoln and Lucy Loud, and darker choices like Powdered Toast Man (who may be older than the fan base this game is marketed to). Fans have already begun perusing the game’s black box art silhouettes for clues about other roster members. According to online speculation, it appears that Aang and Korra from the Avatar series (not to be confused with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora) Ren and Stimpy and CatDog could join the cast.
Does Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl have the rollback netcode?
Source: GameMill
The answer to this question is a surprising yes, at least on supported platforms. In short, netcode rollback is a feature that can predict a character’s movements when playing online, to reduce input lag, to better keep players in sync when playing online. While some fighting games, such as Street Fighter V, have implemented netcode rollback with positive results, many fighting games, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, don’t. This alone could make playing Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl online a lot more fun.
What about wavedashing?
Source: GameMill
Smash Bros fans will also be thrilled to hear that wavedashing will be included in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. For those who haven’t grown up playing Super Smash Bros. Melee on the GameCube, wavedashing is a technique that allows players to cancel a low diagonal air dash to simulate a slide. This technique is standard practice in the Smash Bros. community, but it’s something that was (and was) severely missing from the classic GameCube.
What kind of stages can we expect?
Source: GameMill
Super Smash Bros is known for its insane roster of characters, but also for its stages, often based on the worlds of the characters and also on the history of the company. We have yet to take a good look at the stages, but judging by the trailer, we will have some interesting places to fight over. Rooftops of a city were spotted in the trailer, which are likely linked to TMNT, but also short shots of Bikini Bottom and what looks like Avatar’s Ba Sing Se.
Will there be DLCs?
Source: GameMill
It’s not uncommon for a game to have a DLC waiting in the wings at launch, but as for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, nothing has been announced yet.
Will the Xbox version use Smart Delivery?
Source: GameMill
As with many current Xbox games, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will support Smart Delivery, which means that if you purchase the Xbox One version of the game, you’ll be able to upgrade to the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S version, without loading.
How many players are supported?
Source: GameMill
Right now, there appears to be a maximum of four players in both local and online matches. There are no words about crossplay as of this writing.
When does Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl come out?
