Community Heroes: How a Google Search Led to the Creation of a Life Changing Fostering Program | WJHL

(WJHL) This week’s Community Hero took her personal foster care experience and turned it into a life-changing program for adoptive children, adoptive parents and social workers.

Ronda Paulson and her husband were taking adoptive parenting courses and noticed a gap in the care of children entering the foster care system.

“We were sitting in a room where a little girl had slept,” Paulson said. “It was enlightening.”

When they began fostering the children, the Paulsons were upset.

“In 2015 we got our first placement,” he said. “It came with nothing. And learn that it’s the norm, and be shocked by it. “

Paulson thought there must be another way.

“So that’s where the idea (of the house of Isaiah 117) came from,” he said. “What if there was a home where, on the day the baby is removed, he could be generously loved and meet all their needs. What if there was a home where we can love social workers and lighten their burden, and if there was a home that could help ease the transition for that adoptive parent.

And a Google search is how Isaiah 117 House came about.

“All of this culminated in 2017 when I sat down and googled ‘How to start a nonprofit’,” she said with a laugh. “Because if you want God to have glory, put someone ill-equipped in charge. And that’s how I got my job. “

And his work has grown. Isaiah 117 House now has five houses and many more planned. Paulson says Isaiah 117 House is a calling, and he wonders how it is helping so many.

“God kept saying, ‘Drop the rock, Ronda, drop the rock,’” he said. “And I let go, and this little rock hit this body of water and rippled. He said, “You dropped the stone, I’ll take care of the ripples.” So, every day, we can watch the ripple effects, and it’s a beautiful thing. It’s a good job. “
