Punjab minister alleges cops allowed disbelievers to approach Sidhu Channi’s vehicle says no effort has been made to identify troublemakers so far
Serious problem
If malicious people, in the guise of farmers, harm an important person, it can have serious repercussions. – Kuljit Nagra, provincial deputy
Channi claimed the incident occurred after police were given advance notice of the alleged presence of unscrupulous elements. Sidhu, incumbent PPCC chairman Kuljit Nagra, and Channi are said to be back in a vehicle after paying their respects to the gurdwara when the incident occurred.
“The police allowed the movement of disbelievers near the vehicle of the head of the PPCC,” Channi said, saying he had already lodged a protest with the Director General of Police (DGP) and Ropar SSP Akhil Chaudhary. Although Sidhu did not answer questions in this regard, Channi said, “No effort has been made to identify the troublemakers. Cops deployed to Chamkaur Sahib were dispatched to Morinda in police vans as Sidhu headed for Chamkaur Sahib, apparently to aid unscrupulous elements.
While the police managed to stop protesting the farmers on the main road, some of them managed to reach the gurdwara and tried to chase after his vehicle. “They charged towards our vehicle as we were leaving the gurdwara parking lot. If the DGP cannot ensure the protection of the head of the PPCC, he has no right to continue in office, ”Channi said.
Kuljit Nagra called it a security breach. “If malicious people, in the guise of farmers, manage to harm an important person, it can have serious repercussions,” he said. He called on Samyukt Kisan Morcha to speak out clearly on the matter, in addition to ensuring that his banner is not hijacked by malicious elements.
Ropar SSP Akhil Chaudhary, meanwhile, denied any breach by the police. Heavy police forces have been deployed for the safety of VIPs, he said. About 10 to 12 people, claiming to be members of Congress, managed to get there and then attempted to chase the PPCC leader’s vehicle. Due to adequate security, they could not reach the car, he claimed. A case has been registered under Articles 148, 149, 323, 283 and 341 of the IPC against unidentified people, he said.
