Android Auto blamed for major bug turning Android phones into unnecessary bricks

[ad_1]

As many of us have learned the hard way, running Android Auto is often quite a challenge, all due to the occasional bugs popping up out of nowhere and ruining the whole experience.

But in the end, Android Auto might end up causing problems not only when it is running, but also after it is shut down.

Many users are now complaining in the Google forums that Android Auto painfully slows down their phones after closing the app and the device is no longer connected to the car.

Specifically, these users explain that their phones become pretty much useless bricks every time they shut down Android Auto because everything is drastically slow, including touch response, animations, and launching apps. In some cases, it takes up to several minutes to register the touch and launch an app, some say.

And everything happens after disconnecting the phone from the car and closing Android Auto, it seems. Only Android 11 devices are affected, but at the moment it looks like not all devices are affected, just models from Xiaomi and Vivo.

Typical workarounds that involve clearing the cache and changing cables are a waste of time, but on the other hand, what works for these users is a restart of the phone. In other words, whenever the device gets so slow after shutting down Android Auto, a restart will bring it back to normal, although it goes without saying that this isn’t necessarily a practical solution.

Some have tried even more extreme workarounds like a full device reset, but to no avail.

According to one of the affected users, what prevents the problem from reoccurring in their car is to turn off the automatic screen lock option and Pocket mode (if available, depending on the phone model).

Google has yet to recognize the problem, so there is no confirmation as to whether or not a fix has arrived.
