Ohio Senate Candidate JD Vance Blames America’s Woes on Childless Left | Ohio

Author-turned-candidate for the Ohio Senate, JD Vance, blamed the woes of the Americas on the childless left, naming Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Senator Cory Booker and member of the Congress Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for their own share of the blame.

Speaking to a conservative think tank, the Republican also praised Hungary’s far-right president Viktor Orbn for encouraging married couples to have children.

Vance is a venture capitalist and former US Navy who wrote the bestselling Hillbilly Elegy about his upbringing in the Appalachians and his law school experience at Yale.

Vying for a Senate seat to be vacated next year by Rob Portman, a relative centrist in a party dominated by Donald Trump, Vance has secured the backing of tech billionaire Peter Thiel. He also apologized for the tweets criticizing Trump, who he said he did not vote for in 2016.

On Friday evening, Vance spoke at a conference hosted by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.

The childless left, he said, has no physical commitment to the future of this country, but offers an elite role model for American politics and business.

Mentioning the four prominent Democrats, he asked: Why is it just a normal reality for the rulers of our country to be people who have no personal and direct interest in it through their own offspring?

Kamala Harris has two stepchildren with her husband, the first gentleman Doug Emhoff, who is known to call him Momala. Buttigieg has no children with her husband, Chasten Buttigieg. Booker and Ocasio-Cortez are in a relationship but are not married and have no children.

Democrats are talking about giving 16-year-olds the vote, Vance said. Let’s do this instead. Let us give votes to all the children in this country, but let us give control of those votes to the parents of the children.

Asked if such a move would mean that non-parents would not have as much voice as parents and that parents would have more say in how democracy works, Vance said that while he did expected reviews from the Atlantic and the Washington Post and all suspects, the answer was yes.

We should be concerned that in America, family formation, our birth rates, a ton of family health indicators have collapsed, he said, warning of a crisis in civilization.

In Hungary under Orbn, Vance said, they offer loans to newly married couples who are forgiven at some point later if those couples have actually stayed together and had children.

Why can’t we do that here? Why can’t we really promote family formation?

In response, Dave Weigel, a Washington Post reporter, tweeted that Vance should pretend I’m not there. He added: Interesting speech. Vance praised a Viktor Orbn policy that pays parents who have multiple children but did not mention the Democrats’ Child Tax Credit.

This month, as part of Covid relief measures, the Biden administration begins handing out income-determined tax credit payments to parents, which average $ 423 per month and owe continue for a year.

George Conway, lawyer and prominent Trump critic, was brief and to the point.

Vance, he said, graduated from Yale Law School and knows it’s stupid.
