Spectator offices on Old Queen Street in St James Park were flooded following the Sunday flood.
The magazine on the right has a basement with a kitchen, meeting room and toilet and all of them were damaged by water. Fortunately, however, it appears the books kept in the basement were unaffected. The office is expected to be closed for the remainder of the week, although sources tell us the water has now calmed down.
The Spectator Garden, which hosted their summer party last week, is believed to be doing well.
Associate editor Freddy Gray tells us he was away and managed to avoid chaos, but adds: The last time we were inundated was on the eve of the EU referendum.
Other Westminster haunts also suffered from the flood, including the nearby pub The Old Star.
At a difficult time on Sunday afternoon, the magazine, edited by Fraser Nelson, posted an article online claiming climate change was not to blame for the flooding. Journalist Ross Clark wrote Regarding London, the wettest place measured was St Jamess Park where 41mm was measured over 24 hours: heavy, but far from unusual in terms of what one might s ‘expect at some point in a typical year. Not too expected.

Emily Blunt and The Rock aren’t the most obvious couple. But the two certainly hit it off on the set of their upcoming Jungle Cruise movie, and they clearly appreciate the contrast in their careers. Blunt explains how the ex-wrestler once told him: I love that your debut was on stage with Judi Dench and mine was in the wrestling ring cutting me with razors. RSC is not.

New Phantom of the Opera star Lucy St Louis believes she knocked the door off its hinges as the first black woman to lead the show, which reopens tonight on Haymarket. However, St Louis feels a tremendous additional pressure from so much weight on his good health. The actress works with mental health charity Applause for Thought behind the scenes after suffering horrific racist abuse on social media, she told The Stage. An unpleasant backdrop to make the history of the theater.

Sir Bernard Ingham, Margaret Thatcher’s loyal former press secretary, is unimpressed by Dominic Cummings’ gunfire against the government. I think the public discovered Cummings a long time ago, Ingham tells us. If he was so bright, why were things in a mess before he left? His stupidity in revealing himself as a vindictive narcissist is monumental. Ingham also tells us that Boris Johnson should counter the disloyalty of Cabinet contenders by keeping an eye on No.10. Ingham should know: he was there when Thatcher was ousted amid internal feuds in 1990.

Jess Phillips has little time for gamification of politics. The direct Labor MP said at a Tortoise event last night that politics appear to be about players far more than people. Politicians need the cheerful little noise like Sonic the Hedgehog is getting gold coins. Game over?
Awkward coronavirus positive Sajid Javids didn’t just jail the Prime Minister inside on Freedom Day. He also locked up his family. Last night Javid captioned a photo My youngest daughter is a little excited about leaving isolation tomorrow! with an image of nine cupcakes spelling out the last day. Cabin fever at Javid’s.
