Critics plan lawsuits against three Minnesota institutions for promoting critical race theory

ST. PAUL Critics of Critical Race Theory on Monday, July 26, announced they were filing lawsuits against the Hennepin Health System, the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Lakeville School District, accusing them of bullying or retaliation against employees, students and parents by promoting what they call a racially divisive and demeaning ideology.

Doug Seaton, lawyer for the plaintiffs, told a press conference at the State Capitol that the three institutions tell their employees and students that whites are oppressors who benefit from systemic racism and that blacks are oppressed by white people who are inherently racist whatever they do. .

Seaton, president of the Upper Midwest Law Center, which works with conservative think tank Twin Cities Center of the American Experiment, said his clients were seeking to end Critical Race Theory (CRT) propaganda in the institutions.

While CRT has become a buzzword in conservative politics and media, current theory is an academic framework taught in graduate courses. He argues that racism is structural, that is, racism is embedded in American culture and rooted in American institutions.

Hennepin Health doctor Dr Tara Gustilo said he filed a complaint with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging that the health care system had been discriminated against against him for demoting as chair of their obstetrics and gynecology department after opposing a hospital program she believed promoted more racially segregated care.

I shouldn’t be demoted or retaliated against for disagreeing with the racially dividing and demeaning CRT ideology, she said.

Aaron Norgren has said he is suing his employer, the state’s Department of Social Services, for disciplining him for refusing to attend anti-racism training that promotes the idea that if your skin is not from a certain color, you are racist.

A DHS spokesperson said on Monday that the lawsuit had not been served on the department and that they had no information about it. Representatives from Hennepin Healthcare and the Lakeville School District could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.

Bob Cajune of Lakeville has said he will take legal action against the city’s school district for posting Black Lives Matter posters in its buildings while banning All Live Matter and Blue Lives Matter signs. Black lives matter, he told the press conference, but banning the expression of other views is political discrimination.

The goal of the three lawsuits is political neutrality in classrooms and public institutions, said Seaton, who added that the CRT will create or exacerbate racism.
