Preparation for the third wave is underway, the ministry said it is making sure drugs for the treatment of Covid will be available.
The government has underestimated the importance of the Covid-19 vaccination and is ill-prepared for the third wave of the coronavirus epidemic in Slovakia, former health minister Richard Rai said. The ministry has declined the criticism and insists preparations are underway.
Rai, a former prominent figure in the now opposition Smer party, is one of the deputies close to former Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, who left Smer last year and founded the new Hlas party. Pellegrini repeatedly questioned the need for vaccination; he still has not been vaccinated himself, according to publicly available information.
The epidemic situation in Slovakia is reported as good. All districts in the country remain in the green level, the lowest alert in the Covid automatic alert system that currently applies in the country. The vaccination rate is, however, lower than the EU average, with nearly 41% of the population vaccinated against Covid.
