Manitoba Police Watchdog Investigates Further Sexual Assault Allegations Against RCMP Officer

The Manitoba police watchdog said it was investigating further allegations of sexual assault by an RCMP officer on duty, who was already under investigation.

The Manitoba Independent Investigations Unit said on July 9 of this year that it was investigating a single allegation of sexual assault by an RCMP officer on duty in northern Manitoba.

On July 28, the RCMP reported several additional incidents to the investigation unit that came to light after the initial allegation.

On Wednesday, the agency investigating incidents involving police in the province said it is now examining allegations that the officer committed a number of sexual assaults between October 29, 2018 and July 8. 2021.

These allegations were reported to the RCMP on July 27 and reported to the IIU the next day, the police watchdog said.

The civilian director of the investigation unit has determined that it is in the public interest to conduct an independent investigation, the agency said in a press release on Wednesday.

No other details were made public. The investigation unit is not disclosing any other information about the incident due to its sensitive nature, the statement said.
