Donald Trump’s criticism of Team USA was absurd

If Trump hadn’t been banned from Twitter, one wonders if he could have received a funny tweet on Thursday from the often-swift Specsavers account administrator, as he appears to have mistaken the scorer’s identity. of USA’s first two goals. .

How else to explain her phrase “the woman with the purple hair played terribly,” after Megan Rapinoe scored two spectacular goals against Australia, the second of which – a technically superb volley into the skylight from an awkward angle – is a serious contender for the tournament goal.

In all fairness to Trump, the American team would surely accept that this tournament was a disappointment, in its high standards. Indeed, Rapinoe herself addressed the media after a strangely moderate semi-final loss Thursday against Canada and admitted players need to watch each other.

Yet this team remains the No.1 team, the world’s most dominant soccer team of the past decade, and the sport’s most decorated international team.

They got back on their feet, left behind their first loss to Canada in 20 years and won an Olympic medal for the fifth time in just the seventh edition of the women’s football event.

For anyone who doesn’t already know they’re a part of America’s greatest sports teams of all time, it’s time they “woke up”.
