Snoop Dogg calls lack of black team owners in NFL racist

Rapper Snoop Dogg called out the NBA and NFL for a lack of diversity in team ownership roles.

Speaking to the New York Times, the rapper asked why, despite the high proportion of black players in the NBA and NFL leagues, that doesn’t equate to blacks in prominent roles as team owners.

He said: I mean, you’d think those businessmen up there would say, You know what? It’s time to change the world. We must stop treating black people as if they are less. They’re always the ones doing the hard work, the groundwork, but we never cut them.

On the lack of black team owners in the NFL, he continued: It’s just racist. Period, point blank.

We need to have an NFL team. We have a half-owner of the NBA, Michael Jordan. But the whole league is 90 percent black. So we are still the slaves and they are the masters.

He also compared it to the music industry and musicians work with their own masters.

That’s why in the music game, we took the initiative to say, fuck that. Were the masters, and we own our masters. We were going to negotiate with you as we think. We changed this industry years ago, with our mentality of having our own labels.
