Agra: BJP chief JP Nadda on Sunday August 8 said the government was effectively handling the COVID-19 crisis, while the opposition behaved irresponsibly and made “baseless allegations” about vaccines and the current vaccination campaign.

Nadda praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Center and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of the State in the fight against the pandemic.

“So far we have administered 50 crore doses to people and by December we will be vaccinating 135 crore people in India. It is the largest and fastest vaccination program in the world,” said Nadda.

On the second day of his visit to Uttar Pradesh, he took part in an organizational meeting here with party workers, which was also attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

They were greeted by party members who showered flower petals on them from Kheria airport to the place of the organizational meeting at a hotel in town.

Speaking at the meeting, Nadda said the BJP government had effectively handled the COVID-19 crisis, while opposition parties behaved irresponsibly. He also added that some of the opposition leaders have made baseless claims about the vaccines and called it a “BJP vaccine”.

“How will such narrow-minded people (the opposition) run such a great state?” he said.

As the vaccine was being rolled out across the country in January, Samajwadi party chairman Akhilesh Yadav called it a “BJP vaccine” and said it would not shoot.

“How can I trust the vaccine, which will be used for the BJP vaccination? We cannot be vaccinated with the BJP vaccine,” Akhilesh Yadav said.

Nadda also praised frontline workers and key workers. “I can feel the mental plight of doctors while working during the coronavirus pandemic and I appreciate your precious effort. Thank you for your efforts. We have lost many doctors during the COVID-19 crisis.”

Speaking about tackling the future COVID-19 crisis, he said, “We will train 4 lakh volunteers for 2 lakh villages who would help health workers deal with the future COVID crisis.”

There were 385 medical schools in the country in 2014 and there are now 532, he said, adding that there are now 88,000 medical places compared to 52,000 in 2014.
