Israeli PM accuses Lebanon of rocket attacks

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday accused the Lebanese government of recent rocket attacks fired from within its borders, even though Hezbollah was the group that ultimately fired the rockets, the Associated Press reported.

Speaking to his cabinet on Sunday, Bennett said the Lebanese government must take full responsibility for the militant group Hezbollah launching rockets from inside its territory.

Israeli forces and Hezbollah have launched occasional attacks across the border since their war ended in 2006. This escalated last week and both sides launched airstrikes on Friday, according to the PA.

The country of Lebanon and the Lebanese military must take responsibility for what is happening in their backyards, Bennett said, according to the AP.

It is less important for us if it is a Palestinian organization which has shot at independent rebels, the State of Israel will not agree to shoot at its lands, he added.

Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said on Saturday the group would retaliate against any Israeli strike and would not be held back by the Lebanese economic crisis, the PA reported.

United Nations Secretary-General Antnio Guterres said in a statement that the two sides should exercise more restraint and avoid any possibility of heightened tensions in the future, the PA noted.
