Kamala Harris’s record so far has been so dire that Best Allies hosted a Crisis Dinner last month to try and stop bad PR. However, their problem is not the press; it’s Harris.
As Axios reported, the dinner was about planning how to defend the veep and its chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, amid allegations of a toxic office climate and what some say is sexism. It was hosted by Bill and Hillary Clinton advisor Kiki McLean, and featured former Obama communications director Jennifer Palmieri, Harris confidante Minyon Moore, Biden advisor Stephanie Cutter, and spokespersons for Hillary Clinton Karen Finney and Adrienne Elrod.
If these people want Harris to design a better press, there is an obvious solution: make him do a better job. Its management of the border crisis, its priority mission, has been appalling. Yes, we know: she is in a no-win situation since it was her boss, President Joe Biden, who created the crisis. But her (rare) appearances in the press only made her arrogant and if not unnecessary on this issue.
The media also cannot be blamed for the dysfunction of its offices. Politico cited nearly two dozen current and former assistants, administrative officials and associates pointing fingers at the vice president for a chaotic work environment.
The point is, being called out for general incompetence is not sexist or the fault of a biased press. If Harris & Co. wants better value for money, Shell must deserve it.
