And that’s not an answer that players will be happy with.
Pokemon Godeveloper Niantic has responded to an open letter from fans criticizing the rollback of COVID-19 changes in the United States and New Zealand.
Much of the review focuses on a planned reduction in the interaction distance with PokeStops and Gyms.
Niantic’s response comes after an open letter shared on Twitter with the hashtag #HearUsNiantic.
“The health and well-being of the players is our top priority, which is why we have implemented the new exploration bonuses in certain geographies where it is deemed safe to be outside,” wrote Niantic. “Research has shown that walking outdoors is safe and confers several health benefits. Additionally, encouraging outdoor exploration is in line with Niantics’ mission. That said, we will continue to monitor health and safety guidelines related to outdoor activities and make future changes if necessary.
“We heard your comments on one change in particular – that of the PokStop and Gym interaction distance. We have reduced the interaction distance from 80 yards to the original 40 yards from the US and New Zealand. -Zeeland, because we want people to connect to real places in the real world and visit places worth exploring.
Rather than canceling plans to undo changes (get it ?!), Niantic will form an “internal cross-functional team” to review fan feedback and come up with solutions. The work of the internal team will be completed by September 1st.
Pokemon Gois currently available on iOS and Android devices.
