Melissa DeRosa, the secretary and a top aide to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, resigned less than a week after the publication of a report detailing allegations of sexual harassment against her boss.

DeRosa, who resigned Sunday according to a statement obtained by NY1, called his work for the Empire State the “greatest honor” of his life. She made no mention of the investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve the people of New York for the past 10 years. The resilience, strength and optimism of New Yorkers in their most difficult times has inspired me every day. “Personally, the past 2 years have been emotionally and mentally trying. I am eternally grateful to have been able to work with such talented and committed colleagues on behalf of our State,” she said.

James and his team have investigated several sexual harassment complaints against the governor. Their report, released Tuesday, found Cuomo had sexually harassed and intimidated 11 women “and in so doing, broke the law.” Nine of the women are current and former state employees, and one is a New York State soldier.

Brittany Commisso, a former Cuomo aide who filed a criminal complaint against the Democrat over several cases of improper touching, revealed her identity earlier today on Sunday and insisted her former boss “broke the law “. She was only referred to as “Executive Assistant # 1” in James’ report, and Commisso said Cuomo ran his hand under her blouse and groped her chest while she was at the mansion. executive.

The governor denied all allegations of inappropriate behavior in the report. “It’s just not who I am and it’s just not who I’ve ever been,” he said.

Despite pressure from his top Democratic colleagues, including President Joe Biden, calling on him to step down, Cuomo has so far refused to step down.

Although James has refused to initiate criminal proceedings, at least four district attorneys have requested elements of the state’s investigation.

Albany County District Attorney David Soares said he would open a criminal investigation into Cuomo’s alleged conduct and urged “any victim to contact” his “office with further information.” Westchester District Attorney Miriam Rocah has also launched a similar investigation and is seeking information about unwanted advances and touching by a state soldier.

DeRosa, who was appointed to her last position in Cuomo’s office in 2017, made headlines earlier this year after admitting that the governor’s office hid the death toll in the COVID-19 nursing home state for fear of political reprisals from President Donald Trump.

At the time, DeRosa apologized to a group of state Democrats for putting them in a precarious political position, admitting that data retention was “not fair.”

“So, we apologize,” she said. “I understand the position you have been placed in. I know that is not fair. It was not our intention to put you in this political position with the Republicans.”

The federal government has asked for information on New York City nursing homes, but declined to conduct a civilian investigation, an announcement said last month.
