The parents of a 17-year-old girl, who hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her home in Pataudi, filed an FIR for complicity in suicide against a local youth who allegedly harassed and urged her to marry him.
In her police complaint, the girl’s mother alleged that the accused called her daughter on August 7 and insisted that she run away with him.
When the girl refused, he reportedly threatened to kill her family and defame them in society.
The complainant warned the accused that she would turn to the police if he continued to harass her daughter. However, she alleged that he persisted and pressured the teenager, which led to her suicide.
The girl’s mother also said that her daughter first informed her that the accused had harassed her, calling and texting her on several occasions.
Following this, the girl’s relatives spoke to the mother of the accused, who assured them that he would no longer disturb the girl.
The complainant stated that the accused did not cease to trouble her daughter and threatened to kidnap her.
He even confronted her in front of his 16-year-old sister, said Subhash Boken, public relations manager of the Gurgaon police force.
An FIR was registered under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (incitement to suicide) at the Pataudi Police Station. No arrests have been made so far, the PRO said.
