ISLAMABAD: Pakistan claimed on Wednesday that social media accounts were being exploited from India and Afghanistan to slander Pakistan because Kabul had failed to halt the territorial gains of the Taliban invaders. Pakistani NSA Moeed Yusuf, flanked by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, told a press conference that attempts were being made to blame Pakistan for Afghanistan’s failures. “A targeted, deliberate and conscious campaign of disinformation has been constantly waged by accounts in India and Afghanistan, some of which are linked to the state apparatus, in order to defame Pakistan on the international stage,” Yusuf said. The NSA has claimed that the top five themes used by elements involved in anti-Pakistan propaganda are discrediting the Pakistani government and military, supporting sub-nationalism, targeting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), maintaining the Pakistan in the Financial Action Task Force. (FATF) and blame Pakistan for all the chaos in Afghanistan. Yusuf said senior Afghan officials, including his Afghan counterpart, were involved in such campaigns, adding that the government would expose everything through data. Previously, the Minister of Information claimed that Twitter trends, analyzed by Pakistani government teams from June 2019 to August 2021, showed India to be leading the trends against Pakistan and the biggest player in Helping India was the PTM (Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement, a Pashtun rights movement group) and its activists. Giving a breakdown of a few trends allegedly based on disinformation, Chaudhry said the PTM has launched 150 trends, consisting of 3.7 million tweets, against Pakistan in the past two years. The PTM, the minister said, had also actively supported Baluch activism, and on August 14, 2020, the hashtag #BalochistanSolidarityDay was all the rage, allegedly with massive support from India, with around 150,000 tweets posted with the hashtag by Indian activists in one day. .
