Among the most damning allegations made against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the state attorney general’s investigation into sexual harassment allegations against him were his recently disclosed alleged actions involving a state soldier of New York responsible for protecting it.
On Tuesday, August 3, New York AG Letitia James released the 165-page report outlining multiple allegations of unwanted contact and sexual harassment by 11 women, including an incident with a New State Police soldier. York in New Castle Town, where Cuomo shared a house with longtime ex-girlfriend Sandra Lee.
It is alleged that Cuomo kissed the soldier, who was assigned to his protective detail, and made suggestive comments towards him.
According to the GA report, the state soldier worked in the Protective Services Unit, which is responsible for protecting the Governor. It is further alleged that Cuomo played a role in securing this post by pulling some strings after meeting her at a press conference in New York City.
The report states that a senior state police investigator told the soldier that the minimum requirement for soldiers in the Protective Services Unit was increased from three years in post to two years, modified specifically for her. at the request of the governor.
The female soldier started with the Protective Services Unit working at Cuomo’s home in Westchester in 2018, but the following year was transferred to a position on his travel team, working occasionally as a driver, according to the report.
Cuomo would have been flirtatious and scary with the soldier, she said, claiming he kissed her and made comments that made her uncomfortable.
The report describes several cases, including one in 2019 when the soldier was stationed outside Cuomos Northern Westchester’s home when he came out, approached her and asked if I could kiss you? when she asked him if he needed anything.
I just remember freezing, being in the back of my head, I’m like, oh, how can I say no politely because in my head if I say no he’s going to go after the details ”, said the soldier. “And now I’m on the wrong list.
Instead, she responded, of course, and Cuomo kissed her on the cheek while rejecting her and saying he wasn’t supposed to do this.
Cuomo also allegedly repeatedly offered to join the soldier upstairs in the governor’s executive mansion, according to the report.
In response, Westchester County Prosecutor Mimi Rocah announced that she was formally seeking information from the Attorney General’s office as it is potentially continuing its own investigation.
Yesterday our office saw the final independent report from Attorney General Letitia James’s office regarding the conduct of Governor Andrew Cuomo, she said in a statement.
“As some of the governor’s conduct described in the report occurred in Westchester County, we have formally requested investigative documents obtained by the Attorney General’s office.
Rocah continued: I think it is appropriate that my office conduct a further investigation to determine whether any of the reported behaviors that allegedly took place in Westchester County are criminal in nature.
I am writing to formally request any investigative material, including interview transcripts, notes or reports regarding “this state soldier,” she said.
“Further, to the extent that one of the other complainants or witnesses has reported governor behavior that occurred in Westchester County, I am requesting the same documents for each.”
