SCHENECTADY – Three men face burglary and assault charges accused of assaulting a man in Schenectady over allegations of theft in Rotterdam, authorities said this week.

The assault victim was also to be charged with the theft, officials said.

The defendants in the burglary and assault case were William P. Thompson, 51, of Princetown Road, Rotterdam, Deonte P. Thompson and Darryl D. Thompson, both 20, of Summit Avenue, Schenectady.

They each face one count of First Degree Burglary and Second Degree Group Assault, felonies.

They are accused of illegally entering a residence on Avenue B on Saturday shortly after 7 p.m. and of assaulting the victim. The victim suffered bruises to his face and cuts to his face and fingers that required medical attention at Ellis Hospital, according to allegations filed in court.

The attack occurred following allegations that the possible victim of the assault, William P. Thompson’s cousin, allegedly stole $ 9,500 in Rotterdam, prosecutor Brian Gray said.

The three Thompson called the police, but also went to the cousin’s house. Without a direct response from the police, they are then accused of entering the man’s house alone and assaulting him.

Police then responded and arrested the Thompson shortly thereafter.

The victim of the assault was also to be charged with theft, officials said, but it was not possible to determine on Thursday whether he had been formally arrested.
