A businessman and popular pharmacist based in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state, Mr. Ikechukwu Onyegbuna, alleged relentless harassment by state security agents because of his alleged membership of the people Native of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Onyegbuna, who sounded the alarm on Thursday during an interview with reporters in Yenagoa, said he had been subjected to constant intimidation, victimization and harassment by security guards.

He said he had lived in Bayelsa state for many years and conducted his business without getting involved in the unrest for Biafra and other secessionist groups.

Onyegbuna said: I recently observed that some security guards harass me and make my life unbearable.

The harassment and threat to my life have caused me to go into hiding and I can no longer move freely to conduct my legal and flourishing business which is my source of livelihood.

My ordeal in the hands of security guards is a fallout from the crisis in Oyigbo, Orlu and the recent sit-at-home order by IPOB in the south-east and the arrest of IPOB members in part of the south from South. I have no connection with the crisis.

He called on all relevant authorities to intervene and save his life from imminent danger in the hands of security agents.

But state law enforcement officials said Onyegbuna did not report the case.

Bayelsa State Police Command spokesman Asinim Butswat said as long as he did not report the case, the police would not act.
