46 others have contacted police over a painter and decorator accused of pressurized sales involving customers, a court said.

unday Life reported last week how suspicious trader Stephen Stewart (47), of Larne, faced two counts of aggressive business practice and eight charges of misrepresentation fraud by making dishonest offers to perform jobs for clients.

The charges against Stewart, of Blackthorn Rise, relate to dates in May, June and July of this year.

When he appeared in court earlier this month, prosecutors said many plaintiffs were seniors who described his tactics as forceful and under pressure.

It was alleged that there were nine incidents throughout where the defendant received a total of around 4,500 but failed to complete the work within the agreed timeframe or refund the deposits.

Stewart appeared again in Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on Thursday via a video link from Maghaberry Prison, where he had previously been remanded in connection with the charges.

A prosecution attorney said the full case file has yet to be received by police in his department.

She said officers wanted to bring more questions and 46 alleged incidents to the accused.

Defense attorney David Nagra said the complaints involved allegations that the accused called people’s homes, taking deposits while agreeing to work within a certain time frame, which he did not done, then the matters were brought to the attention of the police.

The lawyer said that the defendant did not dispute any of the accounts regarding contacts and deposits, what is at issue is that the work was not completed within the agreed timeframe.

Meanwhile, the accused denies charges of disorder at Blackthorn Rise on April 24 this year when he allegedly had a hammer as his offensive weapon and is accused of threatening to damage a vehicle.
